General Mathematics in Semester 1 focuses on mathematics required in everyday life and applying mathematics to practical problem-solving and mathematical modelling in everyday contexts.

We will study 3 topics: Investing (including shares), Measurement and Statistics. There are 3 skills and applications tasks (tests), one at the end of each topic as well as 1 folio task in which you investigate the mathematical concepts of a topic in depth and prepare a report on your results.

General Mathematics in Semester 2 extends your mathematical skills in ways that apply to practical problem-solving and mathematical modelling in everyday contexts. There is an emphasis on consolidating computational and algebraic skills and expanding your ability to reason and analyse mathematically.

We will study Linear and Exponential Functions and their graphs, Trigonometry and also Matrices and Networks. There are 3 skills and applications tasks (tests), one at the end of each topic as well as 1 folio task in which you investigate the mathematical concepts of a topic in depth and prepare a report on your results.

Achieving a C grade or better in this subject means the compulsory 10-credit numeracy requirements are met.

Assessment:

  • Assessment Type 1: Skills and Applications Tasks (65%)
  • Assessment Type 2: Folio (35%)
