Stage 1 Nutrition provides a comprehensive understanding of the fundamentals of nutrition, covering topics such as macronutrients, micronutrients, digestion, and disordered eating. The course also explores food marketing, nutrition guidelines, food processing, and food safety.

 

The topics that will be covered are;

 

  • An introduction to nutrition and energy,
  • Macronutrients such as carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids,
  • Over nutrition and undernutrition,
  • Micronutrients like vitamins and minerals, digestion,
  • Disordered eating and eating disorders.
  • Exploring the Australian Dietary Requirements, nutrition and the life cycle,
  • The psychology of food and health promotion,
  • Traditional foods and indigenous nutrition,
  • Fresh versus processed food,
  • Food labelling and recommended daily intakes,
  • Preservation, contamination, and safe handling.

  • Assessment Type 4: End of Semester Test (25%)

Stage 1 Nutrition is a perfect subject for those interested in science and learning about the human physical and mental condition. This subject will be a great help for further study in Nutrition, Biology and Psychology at a Stage 2 level.
