General Mathematics is the study of five mathematical models – Modelling with Linear Relationships, Modelling with Matrices, Statistical Models, Financial Models and Discrete Models. There will be an emphasis on analysing and interpreting results, including the limitations, assumptions and reasonableness of these. Each topic has a skills and application task (test). There are 2 Investigations in which you investigate mathematical models over several weeks.

 

There is a 2 hour SACE examination at the end of the year covering the 3 topics: Statistical Models, Financial Models and Discrete Models.

School Assessment (70%)

  • Assessment Type 1: Skills and Applications Tasks (40%)
  • Assessment Type 2: Mathematical Investigations (30%)

 

External Assessment (30%)

  • Assessment Type 3: Examination (30%)

Pathways:

Programs in this subject lead to post-compulsory courses in areas such as building and construction, aquaculture, agriculture, retail, office management, visual arts, engineering trades, small business, tourism and hospitality, and nursing and paramedical areas.
