Work, Life & Employment (Workplace Practices)

The changing nature of the workplace and the continual development of job opportunities has created a demand for individuals to be equipped with the required skills and understandings of an employee’s rights and responsibilities.

 

In Stage 2 Work, Life and Employment, students develop the knowledge and skills to consider the nature, structure and types of workplaces and the value of future trends, unpaid work to society and career planning. This subject encourages students to undertake practical work experience based on their industry of interest and look at responding to job advertisements and workplace conduct.

 

There is no exam for this subject, but students will have the opportunity to investigate an issue in their field of interest.

Assessment:

School Assessment (70%)

  • Assessment Type 1: Folio – employment application package (25%)
  • Assessment Type 2: Performance – portfolio of work experience and supervisor’s report (25%)
  • Assessment Type 3: Reflection (20%) – reflection on personal skills and employability

 

External Assessment (30%)

  • Assessment Type 4: Issues Investigation (30%) – 2000 word report (with teacher guidance)

Pathways:

This subject will provide students with confidence and knowledge to be applied in the workforce. It will also be beneficial for any student interested in studying Business or Humanities courses at a tertiary level.
