Society and Culture will examine the ways in which living in a society shapes, and is shaped by, individuals’ actions and identities. You will examine how today’s society is made up of many parts including families, communities, workplaces, cities, countries and culture.

 

Assessment tasks include producing essays and presentations on a range of contemporary topics. The insight gained from a study of sociology leads to a greater understanding of how individuals and groups interact at the local, national and worldwide level.

 

This understanding also better prepares you for a wide variety of career paths in the areas of human resources, business management, assessment, research and any area in which a global awareness coupled with critical thinking skills is an asset.

Assessment:

  • Assessment Type 1: Source Analysis (50%)
  • Assessment Type 2: Group Collaboration (25%)
  • Assessment Type 3: Individual Investigation (25%)

Pathways:

This subject will provide a basic understanding of a variety of ways in which societies and cultures are connected and interdependent, which will assist those who wish to undertake Stage 2 Society and Culture.
