Innovative and critical thinking in the world of science underpins a cohesive understanding of the natural world and the discovery of new ways of doing and thinking. Science is continually refining and expanding our knowledge of the universe, and as this happens, stimulating new questions for future investigation.

 

Through a focus on science inquiry skills and scientific ways of observing, questioning, and thinking, students in Scientific Studies actively investigate and respond to authentic, engaging, and complex questions, problems, or challenges. They employ interdisciplinary approaches with a focus on science and engineering, supported through the application of technology, computer aided design (CAD), and mathematical (STEM) thinking.

 

Topics that will be covered are;

  • Sonic Interaction Design – Human perspectives on sound technology and interactions, and
  • Applications of Science and/or Engineering with a focus on solving problems at both local and global contexts

Assessment:

School Assessment (70%): Assessment Types Include;

  • Inquiry Folio
  • Three tasks with a focus on Science Inquiry Skills
  • One Investigation with a focus on Science as a Human Endeavour
  • One Individual Investigation Inquiry Design Proposal
  • One Collaborative Inquiry

External Assessment (30%)

  • Assessment Type: Individual Inquiry
