Teacher: Dr Barbara Harding

Classical Studies is the study of Greece and Roman culture and history: 500 and 23BC. We study 2 history topics: ‘The Greek/Persian Wars’ (what the film 300 is really about) and ‘The Fall of the Roman Republic’ (Julius Caesar and his activities).

We also look at Greek drama, a tragedy and a comedy. There are 3 essays completed under timed conditions for each topic as well as 4 folio tasks which assess students’ knowledge in a more creative manner. i.e. short answers, multi-module, oral, creative writing.

There is also a 2000 word essay on a topic of the student’s own choice. This is the externally assessed component of the course. There is no SACE examination in this subject.
